The Artist
Rita van Wyk was born in 1986 in Pretoria, and obtained a BA (Fine Arts) degree at the University of Pretoria in 2008. Currently she lives and paints in Pretoria, South Africa. Rita van Wyk's paintings are a remarkable voyage into the stimulating and exciting beauty of nature. Rich colors, interpretive values, and magical quantities convey a feeling of joy and happiness to the observer. Working in the vibrant medium of oils, she creates a world of gentility and quietude. Her brush and textures engage works of fragile beauty. Her colors glow with an inner fire in connection with her compositions and interpretation. In her portraits she renders powerful studies of character, personality and inner depth.
The Artist Perspective
To be an artist means, to be part of a prescribed and continuous passion, creating a body of work that brings forth the consolidation of a group of visual ideas and preoccupations, within a specified timeline. Each artwork is part of a unfinished journey through different roads, but is driven by the same all consuming love relationship with paint, texture, light and color.
By going through all my works, you can get a good idea of what my paintings look like. As an artist I like to make beautiful things, I also like to take the viewer and guide them through a journey of exploration, and show them ways of seeing the ordinary as the extraordinary.
